I wish there was a way to tell, when you buy a product, exactly where it came from, the process it went through to become what it is currently. I guarantee many people would think twice about where they choose to spend their money. I don't want to be supporting cruel practices in a different part of the world, I'm willing to spend a little more to avoid that, and I think other people would too.
There could be third-party companies to verify social justice throughout the manufacturing process. Just like how we have companies to verify that wood is being harvested sustainably. I guess Fair Trade coffee is this concept, but it's only for one industry. It'd be nice to have reliable companies doing this across the board for all industries.
Another problem is all of the symbols on packaging and customer education. What I mean by this is that many consumers don't understand what all of the small symbols on the back of the product mean. I didn't really understand until I came into the packaging field.
Here's the symbol for SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) & FSC. Maybe someday it will happen for other causes too...

Everybody's Talkin'
Everybody's talking at me
I don't hear a word they're saying
Only the echoes of my mind
Only the echoes of my mind
I can't see their faces
Only the shadows of their eyes
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Thru' the pouring rain
Going where the weather suits my clothes
Banking off of the North East winds
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone
